Surprising Sensapolis

It was pretty rainy on Sunday.  We were planning to go to a pumpkin festival or zoo...but honestly we were tired of being cold and wet.  We didn't pack gear for spending time outside in the cold and rain...come to think of it we don't even own such gear. It's warm and dry where we live.

Auntie recommended a place called Sensapolis.  It’s sort of like a US kids museum. I wasn’t thrilled to go…I mean here in the US I hate taking my kids to these places.  I mean I love the experience, but these days kids museums are filled with infants and toddlers.  It almost seems like kids over 8 aren’t welcome.  Of course babies are too little to truly appreciate the museums…and their parents get freaked when they see a nine year old boy enter the room.  I hate sounding like a broken record…”don’t step on the baby” “watch out for the toddlers” “don’t run” “Be careful”. But wow was I in for a shock! This place was awesome.  It was five stories of never ending fun…and the kids…well I saw a kid with a mustache.  What I didn’t see were babies being allowed to crawl everywhere and do everything.  I saw kids, big kids, running and playing and exploring. It was a blast.

This was a full size spaceship.  OK I don't really know how big a "spaceship" would be in real-life but this was huge.  There were slides along the side that dropped multiple stories.

Can you see the scale of the place.  It was huge. I really appreciate European kids attractions.  They would never conform to safety codes in the US.  In other words they are a lot more fun.  Also you never hear parents scolding kids re: how to play.  No one says "stop running" or "be careful."

Look closely at the ceiling.  There is a ropes course up there.  There were kids in harnesses and hard hats climbing around on the ceiling.  There were no nets.  Poor "J" was too little by a few centimeters to do it.  She was very disappointed.

Sensapolis had so many fun play areas.  In addition to the spaceship, there was a multi-story climbing structure, a water play area, a pirates ship, multiple slides of all sizes and shapes, an educational area (fun science exhibits) and a castle.  Each area had numerous nooks and crannies to explore.  It was amazing.  We totally want to open a franchise in the US, but beside the cost of liability insurance...we think that all the most fun activities would have to be removed to meet code in the US...and where's the fun in that?

Parents pay...parents play.

The detailing was amazing too...it was a lot like Disney in the attention to deatil.
