Hare Today, Gone Tomorrow

My mother, in a crazed fit of delightful spontaneity, purchased a rabbit. Then, in a completely uncharacteristic manner, brought this rabbit to my children. Of course the kids were thrilled. And I decided that we could keep this rabbit even though I didn't really want another pet.

Well guess what, rabbits are a pain. A huge giant pain to care for and clean up after. I'll spare you the details except to say a rabbit is more trouble than all our other pets combined.

Thus began my two part plan.

1. Convince the children that they don't really want a rabbit.
2. Find a home for rabbit.

Finding a home for rabbit was hard. No one really wants a used rabbit, no matter how cute it is. So to make a long story short I had to sort through a variety of kooks and weirdos on Craigslist before finding a darling 20 something who actually like rabbits and already has a rabbit (that she doesn't want to get rid of).

Rabbit was cute....but she is in a much better place. She will even have an entire room to share with another rabbit. I'm thrilled we found her a home because I was seriously considering letting her go in the woods.

Now part two......

Introducing DIXIE

For the record, kittens are much easier to care for and are so much cuter and sweeter than rabbits. Kittens use the litter box, clean themselves, purr, what's not to love.

Did I mention they are cute?

Dixie currently lives in "J's" room and is slowly exploring the rest of the house. The dogs haven't eaten her yet. She is spunky and precious.
And she is fulfilling the dreams of a little girl.....
