Field Trip Extravaganza-First Leg

We ended August with a very long trip- including visits with relatives and the beach and Washington DC.  We planned a lot of activities along the way but what we didn't plan on was attending this kids outdoorsmanship (is that a word) event (where grandpa was volunteering).  The kids got to shoot shotguns and go "fishing" and while it was unexpected, it was also unexpectedly fun.

The volunteers were knowledgeable and helpful.

This is "T" saying how much his shoulder hurt...we might have laughed a little.  The kids both picked the higher powered weapon even though they were told there would be a lot of "kick".

Todays main event...fishing in a literal barrel...with grandpa looking on.

The kids were so excited.  Although future PETA member "J" was a little less excited than her brother, who had wanted to catch a rainbow trout for some time.

The kids were even so excited that they wanted to cook their fish...even though our next stop was a few hundred miles away.  Kudos to my husband who with great reluctance packed the fish in our cooler with ice and toted them to Virginia.

And kudos to me, who watched a youtube video on how to clean and filet fish so my son could "cook" them but yet, not eat them.

And the fish was delicious...if not quite filleted. (at all)
