The Butterfly Habitat (title by "J")

Last summer we bought a butterfly house on clearance at target….then a few weeks ago I finally got around to ordering the caterpillars. In an awesome mix up at the caterpillar factory (or where ever caterpillars are produced in mass) we were accidentally sent two cups of caterpillars.


Let me tell you-raising butterflies is not for the fain of heart. Soon those tiny caterpillars sealed in a sterile cup of goo-became giant caterpillars in a cup of goo and poop and eewy looking “silk”-that was more like hideous cobwebs than Hermes.

After a week or so the caterpillars climbed to the top of the cup and formed chrysalides. Last night they started to emerge. We have watched excitedly all morning hoping to catch one emerging…Boy they are fast. So far we have only seen a just-emerged butterfly all wrinkled and folded up-still very COOL.

We have since released 4 of the butterflies into the back yard.


From “J” -I got to hold a butterfly on my finger. I love butterflies. They’re so cool; I think butterflies’ are so pretty.


From “T” – I think butterflies are cool, I mean they are just like, like, like as cool as a moth. I just like butterflies. When they were caterpillars they were kind of plump but kind of disgusting too.

"J" and I headed to the park to take a few spring portraits. "T" refused to come as he had very important Lego business to attend to. Here are a few of my favorites.

Nothing Could be Finer

Than some dinner at the diner....

All I wanted for my birthday was to NOT cook dinner. Of course going to dinner with two kids on a week night does not equal fine cuisine...rather we went to the place with the best ice cream and the biggest cookies. Happy Birthday indeed!

Six Flags

We went to Six Flags for "T's" birthday. It was a little chilly in the morning (as you will see below) but beautiful by afternoon. I have to say that Six Flags is not my favorite. "D" and the kids like all the rides but there isn't much there that I can enjoy with them. I brought a book. But the important thing is that the kids had fun and “T” had an awesome birthday.

Stay Tuned

Because one day we MIGHT do something new and interesting. But until then basically it’s the same old thing all over again. This time-a trip to the museum (again) but with “J.”

Lego Man

"T" loves Lego's and so do I. I love them because I think they are a great brain building toy. “T” loves them because they are just plain AWESOME!

Sometime last fall I showed "T" how to follow the directions on a small Lego set. They next thing I knew he built this….


Wow- the instruction booklet was just that, a BOOK! I promise we didn't help him a bit. I personally think my son must be an engineering whiz kid-but the packages says "for ages 6-10" etc...I shouldn’t be too impressed since the company expects a six year to build this stuff.

I wish we had photo graphed a few more of the things he has built because just the other day he decided to dismantle everything. Now we have 1000s of tiny pieces everywhere and he is making up his own creations. Still fun-just messier.

Catching Up

Whoops....did I forget the month of February? I didn't realize how long it has been since my last post. We have been busy-but we haven't done much photo worthy. This is what you've missed.

Snow and more snow-unprecedented amounts of snow.

Other than the snow...we have pets.

Seriously this life is way too luxurious for any dog-let alone a couple of "mutts".




"I guess he’s our now". This stray, abandoned by some renters in our neighborhood when they moved, adopted and moved to a new home along with a second set of neighbors, came back this winter, preferring a permanent home in our garage (with a ratty old blanket) to whatever place our old neighbors took him. We call him Orange Kitty and I guess the next step is a rabies shot and a collar.


This brings our grand total to 2 dogs, 3 cats and a frog.....I am lobbying (without much luck) for chickens.
