The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Christmas really snuck up on us this year.  The ridiculously warm temps didn't really help.

But we managed to get into the holiday spirit eventually.

Our annual cookie decorating party.  I just barely had the energy to have it.  It was really low key and the older the kids get the less they want to decorate cookies anyway.  Still "J" loves her traditions and  insists that we continue them year after year.

This year we brought a friend to with us to see the local college light display.  Here the s’mores and the petting zoo are the biggest draw.  My kids were the only adult size people in the petting zoo…this is one activity I can’t wait for them to outgrow.

This ride said under 10 only...but a smooth talking 12 year old convinced them to let everyone ride.

I remember taking sweet photos with this backdrop in past years...

It took a lot of convincing to get them to pose with the Geico Gecko

We visited Six Flags for the Christmas Lights display.

Believe it or not this child WAS having a good time.  She just didn't want her photo taken.

I made tamales for Christmas Eve.  They were my best ever.  It is hard to get good tamales where we live so the best way to enjoy our Christmas Eve tamale tradition is to make them.  I went so far as to render the lard from some pastured pork fat.  It really is best to use lard when making tamales-but the stuff from the store-no thank you.

After a great dinner at grandma's the kids were excited to open some presents.

Christmas Morning means MORE PRESENTS!

 Grumpy Cat is not impressed.

It's a new dog bed for everyone to fight over.  It's a BIG bed.  They can share.

Dog says...Please stop this humiliation...I mean Happy New Year

New Years Hanging with the kiddos. "j" just asked why don't we ever set off those big fireworks like everyone else..um because someone will lose an eye.

"J" did her nails in Christmas theme.  Pretty cute.
