"Wild" Animal Safari

Well the animals weren't exactly wild, but we still had an awesome adventure at the Animal Safari. We had visited this "safari" when the kids were little. Our last visit was in the middle of summer. It was hot and miserable for us AND the animals. Today was perfect. Our February day was hovering just around 70 degrees. We had a blast feeding the animals and checking out the exhibits.

We decided to rent this "zebra car" which tunred out to be an excellent idea.  The slobber on the windows alone was enough to justify the expense...but many of the animals had large horns!  I didn't need anymore dents in my car.

Twice the fun-twice the ewwwww slobber.

"I want to peck you"

So many animals heads in our zebra car....so many squeals of delight.

ha ha ha - I LOVE this photo.  It needs no caption!

"J" feeds a sweet gentle deer.

"Wild" Animal Safari - part 2

There was so much fun to be had today. Here is part two of our adventure.

"T" pets a zebra.

Ahhhhh!

"J" strikes a pose.

I think you guys are getting a little to big for these things-literally.

Cutest orangatan ever.

Road Trip

A few weeks ago I took both kids on a road trip sans dad. I was a little nervous to make the trip alone. What a surprise, the kids were great. We even got to stop at a few fun places along the way.

"T" enjoys some lemon icecream from Tony's (founded in 1915).  My grandma used to take me to Tony's when I was a kid.  My dad remembered when Tony's brought ice around town in a wooden push cart.  The ice cream was cooled with a big block of ice.  It's wonderful to share this family tradtion with my children.
"a little bit of mine and a little bit of mom's....mmm perfect"

Does the "welcome station" (rest stop) count as a fun place?  Well it does when there are free maps and a big dog to pose with.

Field Trip

Homeschool field trips rock. Most every venue in town has programs and activities for Homeschoolers.  On this fieldtrip we saw a great play and had the best seats in the house and our cost was 7 dollars a ticket.   And the kids really enjoyed seeing The Kennedy Center Presents: Knuffle Bunny A Cautionary Tale.  They really enjoyed it because the word "poopy" was used several times during the show.  That does not make me proud.

Get there early for good seats.  Which is quicker?  Two kids in a car or 40 kids on a bus?
"T" reads a little before the show starts.
These people were behind us (all three tiers of them)
These people were in front of us.  AWESOME!

Too Sweet

Every now an then, in the midst of the chaos and the name calling and the messes, something like this happens, and it fills your soul with the strength to do it all over again the next day.

"T" reads to "J" before bed.

Too Cool For School

Home Schooling can be a really hot topic.  That is why I rarely discuss it on this blog.  I don't like conflict in my life.  But I did want to share a few photos of scince experiments we have worked on this year because the photos are really cute.

This was a unit on water and its properties.  Here the children are using household items to create boats (things that float).  The winner has the boat that stays afloat the longest.

"J" considers her options.

"T" records his observations.
This "boat" was made of foil...we had to determine whose boat held the most pennies.

"T" decides how to proceed.
